It's official! I completed my first poster collection and the posters are now hanging in the gallery.

The collection

With the Juicy Fruits Collection I explored and combined four juicy fruits with distinctly different qualities and associations. The fuzzy peach, sour kiwi, sweet strawberry and prickly pear each bring a unique characteristics, flavours and colours to the mix. Together they share the feeling of late summer harvest season. You know; when the time is ripe.

A little backstory

For this backstory I'll take you back about three summers ago. I was in the midst of my bachelors and I had just moved into my own apartment. I loved that apartment. It was old, but I was able to go crazy with the decoration and filled it with colour on the walls, candles everywhere and a bunch of posters to greet me wherever my gaze landed.

As spring started to turn into summer, one by one my friends slowly started leaving town to go back home for the summer. I would have loved to go somewhere as well but my wallet had taken a hit from the moving so I decided to stay in town and take the coming weeks to spend my time working.

It was a hot and very sunny summer. One of those where you wake up early from the sun shining through your curtains, and when all you need wear are some shorts and a loose top. One of those where all you want to do is take your picknick blanked and read a book in the park. But I couldn't just spend my time sitting around; I had two jobs and shifts to fill so that is what I did. I split my time between my job in customer service and my job as a waitress at a café.

I would be lying if I said I had fun. To be quite frank I despised both of those jobs and so whenever I was working at the café I dreamed away looking at the art that was hanging on the walls and I sneaked a little notebook and pencil with me to my job at the office so that I could doodle away whenever no one was calling me. After work I would go home and make more drawings, some were just doodles, others realistic sketches that I would hang up the wall next to the posters. That summer I also purchased a digital drawing pad and slowly started trying out making digital paintings.

But all things must come to an end and so did the summer. A cool breeze filled the air, the people returned to the city and with my uni deadlines slowly filling my already full agenda my drawing equipment was laying in the corner untouched and collecting dust for what ended up being the rest of my bachelors and masters.

But as I said before, all things will come to an end eventually. And when they do they will make space for something new. My artistic visions of that summer three years ago hadn't left me, and the pressing deadlines and work finally came to an end with my graduation. All my time opened up to do what I had been wanting to do all that time: draw.
